Aimee Connolly firm behind the Sculpted brand sees its profits surge to €3m

Pre-tax profits at the award-winning Sculpted make-up brand firm owned by 29-year-old Dubliner Aimee Connolly last year more than doubled to €3.03m.

n a record-breaking year for Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Cosmetics Ltd the firm recorded pre-tax profits of €3.035m in the 12 months to the end of December last year after recording pre-tax profits of €1.488m in 2020 – an increase of 103pc.

Profits for the business soared during the two pandemic-hit years and compare to pre-tax profits of €381,226 in 2019.

The strong performance of the firm over the pandemic resulted in the company having accumulated profits of €4.46m at the end of December last.

Ms Connolly established her cosmetics business in 2016, having previously worked as a freelance make-up artist.

Last year, Ms Connolly, who has 160,000 followers on Instagram, won the Emerging Category at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards.

The Sculpted brand business sells a range of make-up brushes, lipsticks, palettes, eye lashes, foundations and instant tan.

The business continued to expand last year as numbers employed increased from 10 to 15.

Ms Connolly is set to open a new flagship store on Dublin’s Grafton Street later this month.

In a recent Instagram post confirming the opening, Ms Connolly said she was “excited and terrified all in one”.

The store will sport an all-pink facade and is located at 50-51 Grafton Street.

As part of the shake-up, the company will be closing its Dundrum store – its first ever stand-alone store – on September 15.

The firm recorded post-tax profits last year of €2.654m after paying corporation tax of €380,578. It made €1.3m in 2020.

The company’s cash funds increased from €1.3m to €1.57m while the amount owed by debtors to the business last year increased from €893,503 to €2.27m.

In an interview last year, Ms Connolly said the business had to move online during lockdowns.

“At the start of 2020, 30pc of our sales came from online and 70pc came from distribution through Boots and pharmacies. By the end of the year, 45pc of sales came from online and 55pc from distribution.”
